Thought I would share the latest pictures of lil Nando. Breeder said he is nearly 100% weaned and would be ready to go next week... unfortunately I am going home to Canada for 3 weeks and will not have him till early August... seems like a long time to wait!

Cage is nearly set up, just a few more bits to go.

Enjoy! hug

Guess who came home the other night!!
Baby Nando is ADORABLE! I took some pics that I will upload tomorrow (on iPhone moment)

He is a sweetie, today was day 2, he's doing well but does not like my hand trying to grab him.... I know I shouldn't frighten and grab him but I just want to hold him, he's fine once hes out, was taking seeds from me, I toweled him once to rub his head (which he seemed to enjoy)

I just can't wait until he trusts me, I'm not the patient type lol!

Will post some pics tomorrow

Hi Everyone,

Here at last are some photos of Nando, his ride home and also after I misted him, he's quite the poser already!

I'm not sure how well he is settling in. He does not want to come out of his cage. I've only had him since friday (4 days) so my worries are quite premature I'm sure. I feel I make progress by placing my hand in the cage, at times he lets me touch his beak (without biting) and I've even rubbed his head a few times.... but then as I'm so impatient I have grabbed him (unwillingly) out of his cage which puts me back to square 1.

Should I just leave him be and wait till he's ready?

I'd appreciate everyones advice and enjoy the photos!

xx

What a cute little guy!!

You're doing well for the little amount of time you've had him. You're going to have to be patient & let him do things at his own pace. Birds are prey animals so "grabbing" them is scary. You need to start working on getting him to step up onto your finger, there's a lot of info on training, etc in the "Parrotlet Behavior" & the "Health Questions & tips" threads here on this forum.

Patience is the key to a good pet. nodding 2.gif

I love the first pic of wet Nando! He's so cute!

I agree it's probably best to let him get used to his new home for a while. Don't worry about him not wanting to come out of his cage yet. He's just a baby and probably a little bit scared.
